Call for Papers

The program committee of ICAPS 2015 invites submissions of published journal papers for the Journal Presentation Track, successfully initiated in 2013.

The track is designed to provide a forum to discuss important results in the area of automated planning and scheduling that appeared recently (from March 2014 and onwards) in selective journals, but have not been previously presented at ICAPS or a major AI conference. Authors of accepted papers will be invited to give an oral presentation at the conference, and an abstract of their paper will be included into the proceedings.

The goal of this track is two-fold:

  1. To provide authors an opportunity to present at the conference important results published in journals that might otherwise not be submitted to the conference due to their length and complexity.
  2. To broaden the program with lines of work at the intersection between planning/scheduling and related fields such as constraint programming, knowledge representation and reasoning, machine learning, multi-agent systems, robotics, and operations research.

Scope

The scope of ICAPS includes:

  • Analytic and empirical studies of planning and scheduling problems and algorithms
  • Analysis of deployed applications of automated planning and scheduling technologies
  • Techniques that extend the scope and complexity of problems that can be solved
  • Analytic and implemented tools for supporting automated planning and scheduling.

We especially welcome papers presenting significant applications and work related to planning in applications and planning in robotics, in line with the special tracks on these topics at ICAPS’15.

Proceedings Publication

An abstract of each journal paper accepted to the track will be published in the conference proceedings. There are two options for this:

  1. The original abstract of the journal paper. This is the default option. All these abstracts will be included in the proceedings as a single compilation published under a single title, with the Journal Track chairs as the editors of the compilation, and the authors of the abstracts (all gathered together) as the attributed authors.
  2. An extended abstract summarizing the work in at most 2 pages, using entirely new language compared to the original article. This option can be provided upon request of the authors of accepted papers.

For option 1., only the text of the original abstract needs be submitted at the camera-ready deadline below. For option 2., a camera-ready PDF is required at that deadline.

Submission Requirements

Journal track submissions must meet the following criteria:

  • Candidate papers must be published in a leading journal such as (but not limited to) AIJ, JAIR, JAAMAS, and other relevant, possibly inter-disciplinary leading Journals from March 2014 until the submission deadline.
  • Papers that are in press may be submitted as long as the final camera-ready version is available.
  • Extensions of papers that have been previously presented at ICAPS or another major AI conference (such as IJCAI, AAAI, ECAI) cannot be submitted to this track.

Submission Process

Submissions or questions should be sent via email to the organizers of the Journal Presentation Track: Alan Fern and Joerg Hoffmann

Submissions should include:

  1. a complete citation for the published paper,
  2. a copy of the paper with its final camera-ready contents,
  3. a brief summary of the key results and contributions, and
  4. a statement explaining what parts of the paper have been previously presented at any major AI conference.

Submissions will go through an expedited selection process. Selection criteria include significance of the results, relevance to the planning and scheduling community, and how well the work fits the objectives of the track and the conference program.

Important Dates

  • Submission deadline: February 13, 2015
  • Notification of acceptance: March 18, 2015
